| Los Angeles City Hall Seismic Rehabilitation Project - Emergency Structural Bracing |
|
| The 1994 Northridge Earthquake damaged the upper floors of the tower to the degree that temporary tower bracing and the installation of a shroud or net between floors 25 and 27 became immediately necessary. The purpose of this shroud or net was to catch debris falling from the building. These temporary measures provided time necessary to redesign the bracing system of the upper tower, and award construction contracts to perform repairs and stabilize this portion of the building, thus minimizing the possibility of damaging and twisting the entire tower frame with permanent damage.

This work strengthened and braced the outer and inner walls of the tower and replaced of the outer terra cotta cladding which had become unstable as a result of the earthquake.
The shroud or net was finally removed on October 18, 1996 once structural bracing and terra cotta replacement in this area had been completed.
